An Iconic Era Ends
Leigh Shannon’s Departure from Hamburger Mary’s
Local drag sensation Leigh Shannon recently announced her departure from Hamburger Mary’s after an impressive 14-year tenure. Following the celebratory 14-year anniversary show, Shannon revealed the decision, expressing that the restaurant would proceed with Saturday Night performances sans their involvement. The parting was attributed to a shift in the establishment’s direction.
Despite the separation, the upcoming Saturday Cabaret Dinner Show on August 19 will feature Chyna Cravens, with special guests Myki Meeks and Chavela Belleza taking the stage. Shannon, a stalwart in Central Florida’s drag scene, boasts one of the lengthiest careers and owns Ritzy Rags in College Park, specializing in drag essentials and custom wigs.
In response to the departure, Hamburger Mary’s issued a statement on Facebook. The venue recently secured an injunction against Florida’s “Protection of Children” law, a testament to their ongoing legal battles in the state. As Leigh Shannon embarks on a new chapter, Central Florida’s drag community reflects on the end of an iconic era.
